About me

I am an occupation-centred occupational therapist passionate about inclusive practice, and enabling occupational therapists to build their capabilities to do and be themselves through supervision. My supervision style promotes narrative clinical reasoning, non-prescriptive organic solutions, and importantly, is focused on reflective practice. I have completed a PhD in social inclusion, and value being a 'pracademic', applying my academic skills in practical ways to support evidence-based practice. My values of respect, empathy, integrity and authenticity align with working in true partnership with people.

My experience

My professional experience includes 18 years of practice (2023), across acute, rehabilitation, complex care coordination, mental health (13+ years), NDIS, Centrelink, academic, university teaching, and inclusive education (mainstream primary and secondary schools) sectors, as well as private practice. I combine my clinical and private practice work, with holding a concurrent academic role, where I am an Adjunct Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at University of Canberra. I am an Occupational Therapy Australia endorsed mental health occupational therapist.

My current role/work

I currently work as a Team Leader in a complex care coordination service in a public health organisation working with people living with chronic and complex health and psychosocial issues who frequently present to tertiary health services. I also work in private practice (sole provider), where I offer inclusive occupational therapy services to NDIS Participants (predominantly people living with complex psychosocial disabilities, complex trauma, PTSD, neurodiversity including ASD and ADHD, intellectual disability, and people labelled as having 'behaviours of concern'), GP Mental Health Care Plans through Better Access to Mental Health (BAMH) Scheme, and inclusive education occupational therapy assessments (including sensory and functional assessments) to support funding application for reasonable adjustments through the Department of Education.

My training

I have a PhD in social inclusion and occupational science , and a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (First Class Honours), with a complementary major in psychology. I have published widely in peer-reviewed journals and multidisciplinary textbooks including in the fields of occupational therapy, occupational science, and sociology. My current research focus includes: consumer-centred practice and knowledge and research co-design, therapeutic use of occupation in mental health and NDIS practice, sensory approaches in trauma-informed care, occupational justice, and the ongoing development of the 'Capabilities, Opportunities, Resources and Environments' (CORE) approach for inclusive and occupation-centred practice.

My approach to supervision

My supervision approach embraces reflective practice, critical reflexivity, narrative reasoning, therapeutic use of self, authentic listening, and having a non-judgmental and inclusive approach.
